Twitter is definitely not one size fits all.  There is no template that says this or that will work for your company.  The Twitter strategy for your company should be designed just for your company. This is where XTELWEB comes in.  We know what to look for and how to make Twitter, or any other social networking medium work for your business.    We don’t use the “cookie cutter” approach.  Meaning that we understand what works for one company, may not work for the next.  That is why our team of trained professionals knows and understands how to research your target audience and get the ball rolling on your Twitter presence.  Twitter can be a powerful marketing tool for any company, but it needs to be worked right.  Here are some best practices you should take into account when looking at your Twitter strategy:

Are you only talking about yourself?

If every one of your tweets is about yourself, or your company then you might have an issue.  You should write things that your audience doesn’t already know about you or your company.  Tweeting about product or service specials and a link to the information is a good idea, but we honestly don’t need to know that you are driving home on I-275 every day from work.  Your audience is already following you, so give them information they can use.

Are you often tweeting off-topic?

Like I said before, even though tweeting that the traffic on I-275 and I-4 Orlando/Tampa Junction is horrible, your clients don’t want to know about that (or maybe they do, but only if you are the Fox 13 traffic reporter, chances are that you’re not!)  So keep your tweets on-topic.  Try tweeting about upcoming company events, sales and promotions, maybe you can offer some sort of contest?

Obsessing about follower count?

Having a large number of followers is a good thing, but don’t go out spamming your Twitter profile following people that are unrelated to your business.  Stick to your target audience and things you think they might be interested in.  Having a lot of followers unrelated to your business just clogs your Twitter home page with more useless information.

Does it take more than one person to send a Tweet?

Don’t think of Twitter or your Tweets as a press release.  You don’t need to have employees or co-workers proof-read your tweets before you send them out.  Unless of course you are verifying facts or something important.  But other than that, you should tweet what your heart desires.  If too many people get involved, your good tweets can be revised and edited and become dull.  Twitter is about being genuine and authentic.  If you need to, choose one person who is responsible for handling the company twitter account.  XTELWEB can manage your Twitter account.  We ghost write for Twitter accounts all the time.  You would be surprised at how many companies don’t even send out their own tweets.  Contact us for more information on Twitter Account Management.

You are not tweeting enough..

You need to tweet at least 3-7 times a day!  This is how you keep people hooked and get them to follow you.  Check out @XTELWEB and look at how many times we tweet.  If you have good content  and lots of information to share, then tweet it.  Just make sure you follow the other guidelines listed in this article.

If you don’t know how Twitter is helping your business…

This is very important.  Just as stated before, Twitter can be a good marketing tool, and a way to reach out to a whole new market of potential clients.  If you don’t know how Twitter is helping, or can help your business, you need to contact XTELWEB immediately.  Let one of our trained professionals explain to you the benefits of Twitter and how you can use it as a marketing tool.
