How to Start an E-Business and a Profitable Web Site
With today’s economy many people are getting laid off their jobs, or stay at home Moms are now required to produce a little extra income. One of the ways people are coping with losing their jobs or trying to make extra money is starting their own web site. What is a web site though if you don’t have people visiting it and purchasing your goods, clicking on your ad’s or signing up for your services? Just because you have a website doesn’t mean that people are going to visit it, so I am also going to show you a few ways in which you can bring more traffic to your site.
First things first, you are going to want to start with your idea. It does not have to be a brand new product or something you invented. You just need to figure out how to deliver your product or service in an efficient way. You can do this by using an existing product or service to fit your direct opportunity.
For example, there are profitable businesses that simply print messages, logo’s, or pictures onto existing products such as t-shirts, coffee mugs and even pencils. If you do a simple search on the internet for custom printed promotional products you will see plenty of websites selling you a service to put your message on virtually any product. Some sites are unique, others are not.
The next thing you want to do is put together a business plan. Your plan does not have to be hundreds of pages long, with a million charts. You will need to research things such as how much to charge for your product or your service, how much does it cost to deliver the service or produce the product and the size of your potential market. Evaluating your competition is a good way to get a feel for the playing field, see how big other companies are, and figure out a way to compete with them. Because you will be doing all of this on the internet, you can eliminate having the actual product in your house and look for a company that does drop shipping. If you choose to offer a service, then you need to think about if your service is going to be a local service, can you outsource or service, or perform your service virtually over the internet.
Now it’s time to put together the website for your business. You should have chosen an idea that you have extensive knowledge and understanding about. The beauty of the web is that anyone can do it. There are companies out there that help you build your website. My favorite is WordPress.org, it started out as a blog engine that anyone could maintain but has grown into something totally different. You can do a lot with WordPress and it does not take a monster web hosting plan to run it. You can sign up for the cheapest web host and that will do just fine. WordPress allows you to efficiently keep your customers updated about your product or service and can allow them to pay online too. There are tons of plug-ins to help get your site noticed and the traffic rolling in. Remember, you will want to keep your content plentiful and related to your product or service.
With these thoughts in mind the next step is the marketing plan. Marketing does not need to cost a fortune and a lot of it can be done for basically nothing. For example, search engine submission does not cost anything. If you have done the first step correctly you should have a website full of useful content related to your business. Search engines pick up on this content and will place your website in higher rankings than competing websites. A successful internet marketing plan will include keywords and key phrases that you think your customers will type into a search engine when looking for your product or service. You can help determine these words or phrases by using tools such as KeywordSpy.com to help you better understand the words and phrases you should choose for your site.
There are a lot of people every day turning to the internet as a means of producing extra income, so it’s important to try and stand out in the crowd.. As with anything in life there are the tricks of the trade that you will come to learn as you grow your experience in cyberspace. Whether you are selling a product or a service, the rule stays the same, find a way to efficiently present your company so that your customers will keep coming back to you and tell their friends what a great experience they had.
